Nursery Manager Cedarwood Trust – North Shields starting at £23,500 a year The Cedarwood Trust aim to open a new Community Based Nursery on the Meadow Well Estate of North Tyneside in September 2017. We are looking to recruit a Nursery Manager for the day-to-day running of the Nursery. You will lead and develop our small team to maintain high quality care and learning outcomes for our children and families. This role is ideally suited to an existing childcare setting Manager looking for a new challenge or an experienced Deputy Manager looking for a promotion. To provide safe, high quality education and care for nursery children. To fulfil legal and statutory requirements. To lead and manage staff on a day-to-day basis. To contribute to and to implement nursery policies. To ensure that all statutory, legal and setting obligations are followed and met. Duties and Responsibilities To be responsible for and to oversee the day to day management, staffing, organisation and smooth running of the Nursery To be responsible for the strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation and development of the Nursery To be responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe acceptable standard of practice that meets OFSTED criteria. To ensure quality standards, including the implementation of all relevant legislation, policies and procedures. To ensure that the Safeguarding practices of the Nursery are of an outstanding standard. To be responsible at all times for high standards of care and education of children, initially, between 2 and 4 years in accordance with statutory requirements To ensure the EYFS is promoted and delivered within the setting and the principles adhered to To be accountable and responsible for day to day financial systems directly relating to the Nursery provision To ensure the national standards for the registration of childcare are maintained at all times. To implement the Nursery’s Equal Opportunities Policy in all aspects of the Nursery and other childcare services. To take responsibility for quality assurance and compliance with all applicable legislation, including Health and Safety within the Nursery environment. To work in partnership with the Early Years Department, local childcare/educational providers, health providers, Sure Start and other providers. To establish and maintain effective working relationships with partner agencies providing services within the area. To be responsible for the admissions in line with the admissions policy To keep a register and up to date records of all children using the Nursery and to give regular feedback to parents about their child's development and progress To be responsible for organising training and monitoring students in the Nursery provision To develop and maintain monitoring records of all aspects of the work and to prepare reports for the Board of Trustees To receive and deal with complaints positively in accordance with procedures. To represent the Cedarwood Trust at relevant community meetings and activities To achieve the targets set for occupancy levels by managing capacity, reviewing numbers of children attending and following up enquires promptly to ensure maximum capacity levels are maintained at all times. To ensure a register of assets is maintained. To produce reports and statistical information as required, maintaining high standards of accuracy and confidentiality in record-keeping. To participate in the evaluation of the services offered at the Nursery. Scope and Limits of Authority The postholder has overall responsibility for a staff team of up to 5 and an additional 5 sessional staff. The Cedarwood Trust provides a number of community services within the District, working closely with external agencies in the voluntary and public sectors. The postholder takes the lead on the implementation of new initiatives that contact parents and the wider community within the Meadow Well Estate and encourage their participation in the Cedarwood Trust Nursery. The nature of the post means that the postholder is not closely supervised but is expected to work in consultation with other members of the team and the Chief Executive. The postholder also takes on task specific supervision of of volunteers and student placements. PERSON SPECIFICATION The ideal candidate will be expected to provide high quality, flexible childcare for families from the local communities. In addition you will: Oversee all operations to the highest standards, ensuring that the best possible environment and care are provided for young children. Knowledge Minimum of Level 3 trained in Early years with 2 years management or team leading experience Have knowledge of the foundation stage curriculum Have knowledge of relevant legislation and the ability to develop policies/procedures consistent with legislation, best practise and the inspection process for the day care setting Understanding of health and safety legislation, particularly in relation to Nursery provision Knowledge of the particular requirements of pastoral care and of the issues facing residents of the Meadow Well Estate, particularly those who have experienced difficulty or challenges. Experience Have a minimum of 3 years' experience post qualifying of which at least 2 must involve managing and supervising staff. The ideal candidate will have worked in an Ofsted “Outstanding” Setting Abilities and Skills Have the ability to communicate confidently with a wide range of people.
